The Schooner Ernestina departed Yarmouth
today after lunch with a mix of members and Nova
Scotian friends of the ship on a voyage to
Halifax to join other ships for the Halifax Tall
Ships 2000 event. Heading
into the SW breeze we set the mains'l north of
Green Island and headed South under the four
lowers.
With a fair current we sailed
south of the Tusket Islands making 8-9 knots with
the ebb from the Bay of Fundy. Once east of Seal
Island a gentle breeze kept us sailing through
the night. Skies were starry and the moon was
large.
You can see Lower East Pubnico
peninsula adjacent to Woods Harbor where Capt.
William Morrissey, original captain of the ship,
is buried.
