Schooner Ernestina anchored in the
Southeast Harbor in Gloucester's outer harbor,
with the Mainsail up. The Coast guard came over
in the dark to see if we were sailing, or
anchored. The anchor ball and light we set! After
breakfast we hauled back, and motored to the
Gloucester State Fish Pier , and tied up with the
Mainsail set. You can see from the inset images
we attracted the local art community right away! After a short few hour turnaround we set
the maintops'l in the light S breeze at the dock
and sailed on from Gloucester with 28 members
overnight to Portland.
We left Gloucester at 1330 and
motored out of the harbor. The crew murmured
several bad lines from the movie Perfect
Storm as we went by Crows Nest, Ten Pound
Island and rounded Thatchers Island with all
lowers and both gaff tops'ls flying.
After an orientation, all
members were divided into watches and we sailed
on as an 'SSV,' Sailing School Vessel.
Wind: S Force 3
Visibility: Fair with smoky haze (some thought a
result of the fires out west) Great sunset!
