We are dockside at Fan Pier at the
Federal Court House Building in Boston after an
all-day sail with Outdoor Explorations. After an early morning pickup of a
wheelchair accessible port-o-john over in
Charlestown, the crew brought the ship back to
Fan Pier for boarding. The Outdoor Explorations
Expedition came aboard at 0920 after a dockside
briefing and orientation. We got off the dock and
set the foresail and jumbo and motorsailed out
Boston Harbor into the Narrows and between
Gallops and Georges Islands to anchor off
Peddocks Island for a series of activities.
During the transit,
participants helped steer the ship and put a
plankton net over to observe the microscopic
harbor life. At anchor activities expanded to
include climbing out onto the bowsprit and many
made it up the shrouds on belay to the
crosstrees! A mechanical advantage station and
tools of the trade along with history were all
components of the day.
Sometimes we are able to get
dories over for some rowing but today proved too
windy with the wind SW'ly and off shore.
We struck sail as we motored
back to the dock after a full day.
