Today we got off the dock at 0735 and
traveled out to Hull at Pemberton Pier for a
9-11am open ship dockside. The wind was light
NW'ly, significantly down from yesterday's
frontal passage. We tied
up just prior to 0900 and soon people were
boarding over Ernestina's bow. Fifty people or
more came down and were very interested in
learning about the ship and programs. A special
visitor was State Senator Robert Hedlund who put
the word out to the local press and was
instrumental in bringing Ernestina into Hull for
a visit. Many thanks to Peg in the Senator's
office for her efforts, as well.
At 1145 we sailed off back for
Boston Fan Pier with the four lowers set but not
without a large crew of folks who came aboard for
the trip. We had plenty of room and were pleased
to have them aboard! We even had visitors from
Belgium... little did they know when they came
aboard they'd sail on an historic ship for the
day.
You can see the ship's track
from Hull back to Boston in the chart to the
upper right with the detail of the stretch as we
tacked to windward past Deer Island light and
through President Roads in Boston Outer Harbor.
We arrived at Boston Fan Pier
by 1410 and opened the ship up for visitors there
as well once our Hull contingent was ashore. Many
thanks to Senator Hedlund (who came for the sail
with us) for arranging the day and for his
supportive efforts in the House on behalf of the
ship. We certainly would not be sailing today
without core state budgetary support.
