Living Treasures Todays students ranged from age 11
to 65. Sixth grade students from three different
elementary schools and senior citizens from
Project Independence came together as the
beginning of a yearlong program called Living
Treasures. The goal of this program is to
have the young students interact and learn from
the elders in our community through interactive
experiences such as the Ernestina. The large
group was broken into six smaller groups and a
crewmember joined each of the groups. After an
introduction to learn everybodys name the
crew member lead their group throughout the ship
teaching about the history of the ship, how we
navigate and steer the vessel, how to catch
plankton, and even how to make some nautical
bracelets. By the end of the day everybody was
better acquainted!
