Ernestina Logbook Page

Date: Monday, October 16 through Thursday, October 19, 2000
Time: 1500 EDT

This week we have a series of programs sponsored by the Community Foundation of Southeastern MA and the Buzzards Bay Action Committee under the auspices of the Southeastern Environmental Education Alliance (SEEAL) in Onset.

Schooner Ernestina arrived at Onset Pier on Sunday afternoon to begin a week of dockside watershed education programs for area third grade students. From Monday through Thursday, over 400 students from the Hammond, Decas, and Minot Forest Schools of Wareham and Center School of Mattapoisett visited the ship to experience learning stations that focused on watersheds, wetlands, the water cycle, wateruse, animal adaptations, sea scallops and pollution plumes.

Agencies who collaborated with the Ernestina staff included the Coalition for Buzzards Bay, Westport River Watershed Alliance, and MassPIRG Water Watch.

Captain: Sophie Morse
Program Coordinators: Inette Rex, Polly Zajac

We would like to thank Lotus and IBM for donation of software, hardware and funding to enable regular electronic updates from the ship.
