This
morning we Boarded 67 Fifth Graders, and
chaperones from the Indian Head School. After
waiting for a Fuel Barge to fuel a fishing boat,
and clear the channel, we departed the State Pier
in New Bedford, and set the Four and Jumbo. The
breeze was filling from the South, and we
Motorsailed out past Butler Flats, and Clark's
Point. The students got into groups, and studied
Navigation, Sea Creatures (touch tank), Water
quality (Salinity, PH), Helm/Lookout, and Knot
tying. After lunch we enjoyed a long quiet moment
while not a word was spoken, and heard only the
sounds of the Schooner and the Environment around
us. The Chart shows where we cut the engine and
were able to Sail around Decatur Rock, and
Brooklyn Rock, and then run downwind towards New
Bedford Harbor again. All hands helped strike
sail, and we returned to the dock a liitle after
1300. Captain:
