Dighton Middle School sailed for a second
day with Judy Parker's 7th grade class aboard. A
day just as beautiful as the first and a program
almost identical. Those who were on
the shore for side field trips yesterday came
sailing with us today. This was their
opportunity to compare New Bedford's
whaling heritage to the industry
found presently working from the
harbor. Sailing aboard the 107-year-old
schooner kept the contrast alive. The
Hurricane Barrier and the Waste treatment
Facility look so different from the water,
but you can't mistake their connection
to our environment and quality of life
here. Hopefully all today have gained
a new appreciation for the interrelationship of
our communities and the waters that surround and
sustain us. Thanks to the hard work of Judy
Parker (a Sea Connections Alum) and staff this
unique multi day experience was achieved.
