Greenport
Schools.... You can see the track of the program
and a radar image showing the squal line going
though very early the 12th. Trip #2 On schedule we had
fifteen fresh hands boarded and ready to go. The
weather did not look so promising for this
evening, so we raised the Fore and Jumbo and made
way to a closer anchorage for the night. All were
comfortable in their bunks before the rain began,
and by dawn the skies were clear. Our program was
similar to yesterdays.
Students steered
the boat, recorded weather observations and boat
checks and stood bow watch. A few students
spotted some comb and lions mane jelly fish as we
plied the waters, so over went the nets and
buckets. Other plankton was sorted and examined
through the microscopes. By the time we were back
at port all had the experience of some new
seamanship skills under their belt; whether it be
scurrying out on the bow sprit to furl the jib,
swabbing the decks or coiling down the lines.
Whatever the task might be, teamwork is essential
on board.
Great job seventh
grade!
