Buttonwood Park Zoo "Berkshires to the Sea" Overnight Sail

This overnight sail was a component of a program literally linking the Berkshires to the coastal environment onboard Schooner Ernestina. Participants came aboard and sailed to West Island where they anchored overnight, examined the catch from an otter trawl and learned about the operation of an historic sailing ship.

You get a close-up view of a Mantis Shrimp. Apparently they are good eating but beware! The front legs are very sharp and they can give your fingers a deep cut! Look closely. They legs look very much like those of a Praying Mantis on land.

Captain: Willi Bank
Program Coordinator: Crista Mellican

We would like to thank Lotus and IBM for donation of software, hardware and funding to enable regular electronic updates from the ship.

NOAA Chart is provided courtesy of Maptech using Cruising Navigator 4.3 and grabbing the image using Grabit Pro 6.02.
