We motorsailed on through the
night toward a scheduled rendezvous with the
Norwalk harbormaster at 1300 hours at the Western
extreme of the Norwalk Islands. After passing
Middle Ground Shoal at sunrise, our morning
watches spent their rotation beating west in the
light SW breeze, with the engine off and four
lowers and jib tops'l filled, arriving punctually
in time for our rendezvous. On our way up the
channel the crew furled the sails with great
care, putting in tight "harbor furls"
by the time we came alongside at Veteran's
Memorial Park.
We opened the ship for tours for two hours
Friday evening as the Oyster Festival got
underway. Crowds were thin but anticipation high
as weather forecasts predicted an ideal weekend
for the multitude of Festival activities in
store.
