Transit Sail from Providence to Newport, RI

We set sail from India Point Park in a light S'ly wind and therefore used the engine to make the first part of our transit.

By the time we came abrest of Prudence Island and because of the boost we received from fair tide, we shut the engine and sailed on out the Narragansett, tacking gracefully under the Newport Bridge and rounding up into Newport Harbor where we docked alongside the schooner Coronet.

Once alongside in Newport, participants toured the International Yacht Restoration School and got a special tour of the 1885 schooner yacht Coronet.

Thanks go out to john Summers, Curator of the schooner Coronet project, for his efforts as field session manager and to IYRS for hosting the Ernestina during her stay in Newport.

Captain: Doug Nemeth
Program Coordinator: Inette Rex

We would like to thank Lotus and IBM for donation of software, hardware and funding to enable regular electronic updates from the ship.
