A total of
33 participants joined us for a 7-hour program
that included a pleasant motor sail through
Boston Harbor, anchoring at Peddocks Island, rig
climbing, and many fun hands-on stations. Participants
greatly enjoyed the challenges of raising sail,
steering the ship, climbing aloft, and singing
chanteys with deckhand Katie Krause.
Other stations included knot-tying, tools of
the trade, and an exploration of
the "simple machines" we use
everyday on ERNESTINA.
Light showers began the day but gave way by
late morning to clearing skies and a strong SW
breeze. All participants departed back at
Boston Fan Pier after a full day at 1620 hours.
Both before and after the sail Schooner
Ernestina crew rigged a port-o-john (photos below
right) over onto the deck to make sure the
program was accessible to all.
