All is well aboard this AM. We sailed all
night under the 4 lowers. Just before dark last
night we saw a couple whales and two large
basking sharks on Stellwagen Bank. The sky was
clear; the moonrise magnificent! All students stood watch through the
night and handled the ship well in the fine
weather.
The wind remained NW until this
morning when it has become light and variable. We
are currently motorsailing towards the Cape Cod
Canal to meet the fair current at 1200. We plan
to sail in Buzzards Bay and anchor for the night.
Later at anchor:
We have sailed 155 nm from Boston to Aucoot Cove
for the night. After transiting the Cape Cod
Canal, B watch sailed the schooner in Buzzards
Bay to the anchorage off Mattapoissett. Hands
helped strike sail and then launch dories for an
adventure to the beach. The breeze filled in SW
making rowing a challenge! Only one dory made it
to shore and quickly retreated to the schooner.
With the boats back aboard,
swim call followed. The water was a fine 70 F,
much nicer than what we found north of the Cape.
Anchor watch will keep the
watches busy. Then, after evening program, folks
should get a good night of rest. We'll sail early
Wednesday towards New Bedford. Our return to the
State Pier is slated for 1600 Wednesday.
