Day 2 begins early while at anchor in
Tarpualin Cove. At 0230 some jokers from the
Schooner Shenandoah tried to pull a prank on our
schooner, but an alert anchor watch chased
them away. The Sun rise
at 0520 is perfect.
At 0600 all hands are on deck.
We have breakfast, a ships meeting and turn to
morning chores. Afterwards, the small boat and
both dories are launched and all students row
ashore to explore the beach at Naushon. A seine,
and tidepool discovery leads to collection of
beach glass, a live whelk, and observation of
terns feeding on small fish.
At 1100, with all hands and the
boats retrieved, we prepare to get underway. The
mainsail is still set from yesterday, so the crew
haul the foresail and anchor. We then set the jib
until the anchor is on the rail. The jumbo is
set, and we are off across the sound in a fine NE
breeze.
At 1200 we gybe and head to the
west against the current. We plan to sail to
Rhode Island Sound and back to Buzzards Bay for
tonights anchorage.
2000 Entry
We made our way to anchor off South Dartmouth for
the last evening of the program. Watches enjoyed
some nice sailing today. We managed to keep the
diesel engine quiet all day, and make our way
under sail alone.
