At 1030 am we are still at
anchor, as the students return to the ship in the
Dories form their visit to the beach on Naushon.
The chart image shows our arrival at Tarpaulin
Cove anchorage last night and you can see the
lighthouse on the point that also shows up in two
of the photos. Weather Conditions:
Wind: ESE Force 3
Seas: 1 foot wave
Clouds: 100% haze
Temperature: 75 F
Barometer: 30.04 inch
24 Hour Plan: Get underway by 1100, and sail
towards Buzzards Bay. Watches will run the deck,
and anchor in Aucoot Cove by 1800.
We got up
at six in the morning and all thought the day
would be boring. We did morning chores, and set
down the dorries. As we climbed in the boats we
hid all our worries. We struggled as we rowed to
the shore of a little secluded island. The water
was cold and rocky. We pulled the boat to shore
and the rescue boat started with a roar. When
everyone arrived we walked down the beach we got
some rocks and shells. They dragged a net and
everything inside smelled. We headed back to the
ERNESTINA and started the afternoon on a happy
note. We had lunch and all people had a turn on
watch. We headed off and after the sun went down
we had evening program. There were a few laughs,
then at ten oclock we went to bed after
brushing our teeth and using the head.
~"B Watch"~
As it turned out we were not
able to make it to Aucoot Cove. The wind was
light most of the afternoon. The second chart
image shows our approach to anchor off Nonquitt
in South Dartmouth.
