We've had
a lovely last couple days. When we
approached Gardner's bay yesterday we set the
mains'l and jib (fores'l and jumbo already up),
cut the engine, and spent the next eight hours
under sail, back and forth a couple times in the
bay then bucking the tide coming in past Bug
Light to our anchorage last night in Orient
Harbor. Aside from a small a deluge last night
it was very peaceful and we came to the Railroad
Dock in Greenport at 11am, astern of the BOUNTY.
The Maritime Festival this year was packed
they say. It would have been great to have
been able to be there for it. Maybe next
year our schedule will allow!
Everyone in town keeps remarking how great it
is to have us here, and we keep thinking how
great it is to be here. Folks say if we
could come for the festival next year the red
carpet would be rolled out for us..... It's nice
being here with the BOUNTY too, of course.
They are here for just a couple days and then
they're off to Gloucester.
Laurie and I last-minute put together a dinner
for folks here in Greenport, especially those who
helped us out in July. The Douglass Marine
folks came down, along with Arden Scott and
Keith, Doug Hardy, Mary and Doug Moore who had
the crew for dinner in June, some of the BOUNTY
crew, and a couple other locals who we've come to
know here. Josh Horton tried to make it but
couldn't. It came off very well, Laurie
served a delicious meal with dessert. Everyone
seemed glad to stop by and see us and the ship!
Weather's supposed to get a little snarly by
Friday so I'm going to try to leave here ASAP on
Thursday. Guess I'm hoping to be back in
New Bedford ahead of the weather... there are
several tropical storms brewing and casting their
influence far and wide. The weekend is
supposed to be blowy. We'll keep an eye on
the weather web sites....

This is the track as we came into
Gardiners Bay on the eastern end of Long Island
on Sunday with an anchorage in Orient Harbor for
the night.
On Monday we were able to make our way to the
dock in Greenport.
