Today Forty-three people boarded
Ernestina for one of the sessions slated for the three-day
Partnership in Land Conservation and Stewardship
Conference hosted by the Eastern Lands and Resources Council and the Massachusetts
Executive Office of Environmental Affairs. The group embarked at the Federal
Court House Building on Boston Fan Pier for a
morning sail in Boston Harbor and the Boston
Harbor Islands. The
participants were representing environmental and
land conservation organizations, from around the
country. They were aboard to learn more
about the Boston Harbor National Recreational
Area - a partnership for thegateway to Boston
from some of the partnering organizations in the
Alliance to manage the area.
Speakers included Kathy Abbott
(President of the Island Alliance), Peter
Lewenburg (Special Assistant for the Boston
Harbor Islands at EOEA), Craig Macdonnell (EOEA),
George Price (National Park Service
Superintendent) and Betsy Shure Gross (Assistant
Secretary for Community Preservation at EOEA).
A brisk autumn day with
moderate northwesterly winds allowed for a cool
but great day. Many thanks to the EOEA for
including the ERNESTINA in the conference.
Engineer Steve Swift presented a great overview
of the history, mission, daily life aboard the
ERNESTINA, and her commitment to education and
connection to the state.
