So you're
thinking of going on the schooner Ernestina? Well you should.
This boat is amazing. Especially if you study overnight. The
breeze is great at sea. But if you don't like the work you
should reconsider. This is a hands on experience. From raising
the sails to...to...just wait and see! Your sleeping quarters
are comfortable. If you're tall don't get the top. Trust me I
know. The cook is excellent. The food she makes is delicious.
From chicken parm to fried chicken...just go on this boat. You
never have to worry about anything because the crew is there.
They are amazing. If you have a question or need help they are
there. This experience also forms a better sense of things
that you take for granted. It also builds character and
teamwork, what you need in life to survive. So this experience
is not only fun, but you get a lot of useful stuff to bring
home. ~Samantha Santos
Being on
the boat is fun. When I first got on I was nervous and when we
started I felt sick, but that feeling soon passed. I made some
friends and it's amazing what I learned on just my first day.
Like this ship sailed to the Arctic and how ships were made
and what materials they used to build it with. I even learned
something about sharks and then we put on a funny skit. During
night watch we did a boat check. I saw some jelly fish... not
poisonous, but they can sting. Next morning we got up at 6:00
and ate breakfast. We did not raise the sails until 10:00 AM because
it was foggy, but now we are in our bunk room playing cards
and having fun even though it is raining. They have a library
so you can read some books. ~Hannah Mowry
Many of the photos on this page
came from Tom Kenney who sailed by as the ship lay at anchor
in Padanaram Harbor in his Crocker designed Stone Horse cutter
WINDFALL. (We think this is our photo of him going by below.)
