After a foggy night
spent at anchor, the Ernestina stopped into Newport Harbor for
a scenic tour while taking care of some ship’s business. With
a good wind helping us back to Providence, we raised sails.
Participants took initiative and led the jumbo and jib
sails. As we made our way back to the dock at
India Point, the students learned about the diverse history of
the Schooner Ernestina and took some time to relax and simply
enjoy being on such a historic vessel. We
arrived at the dock at 4:30 and came together one last time
for thank yous and good-byes. We would like to
thank the students from the Rhode Island Children’s Crusade
for a fantastic trip. The
responsibility the students put on themselves for caring for
the boat made the trip enjoyable for all involved.
We look forward to Friday’s trip and the continued
partnership between the Ernestina and the Rhode Island
Children’s Crusade. Program
