Eastern
Salt Company hosted Ernestina for the weekend in
Chelsea Creek just past the McArdle Bridge. On Sunday there
was an open ship and many people from the Chelsea community
came down to visit the ship. We are very
appreciative of the great hospitality shown by all and extend
a special thanks to Joe Landolfi of Denterlein Worldwide for his efforts to organize
the weekend. This afternoon, as a second day to
the Chelsea Eastern Salt Company maritime festival, we opened
the boat to the community of Chelsea.
On shore, the Salt Company sponsored food, face
painting and a clown, while on the ship we shared our history,
tools of the trade, and knots.
We had a total count of 371 people board between 12:00
and 4:00. Children colored logos of our ship and turned the helm for a
chance to feel what it’s like to steer a 109 year old
vessel. The
Ernestina reunited old friends and we discovered a new
connection with a local man who had been onboard in Cape Verde
at the age of 9. Our time in Chelsea helped us
connect us with the community and we want to send a big thank
you to the Eastern Salt Company. We look forward to returning
in the future and encourage our new friends to stay in touch.
After the festival ended we moved the boat down the
river to Fan Pier, welcoming onboard some boy scouts and local
members of the community, with a stop to salute the USS
Constitution.
