Today
was an exciting and busy day. After sailing through the night,
the students were in a good rhythm on board, smartly moving
around and getting a good feel for life under sail. They stood
four hour watches at night, and enjoyed the nice breeze as we maneuvered
the boat between Cape Ann and Ipswich Bay. In the morning, the
students began preparing for the schooner Olympics. They
practiced the skills they have learned, and worked with their
watch leaders to remember all the lines on the boat.
Upon bringing
Ernestina back home to Gloucester, we observed a few minutes
of silence to reflect on the great trip, and also the
significance of this beautiful town to the Ernestina. The
schooner Olympics were a big hit: lots of laughs and
excitement, and a great opportunity to show each other how
much has been learned in these five short days.
